8v or 16v?

I was reading my insurance statement on my car today and I noticed that they put it was a 16v. I always thought it was only 8v. Could anyone tell me what Ive got exactly?

Its a 5dr CDX and on the back it has 1.4 Si.

Thats great! Ive always thought it was an 8v. Pleasant little surprise there. How big of a difference does it make though? Surely double the valves would mean more petrol so quite a big difference. I should probably know this too

Its a '95 btw

Wouldnt have thought it would be much different on petrol, but quite a jump in performance i would have thought, pretty sure there about the 100bhp mark?

95 will be an 8v then, pre 97 is 8v and post 97 is 16v although ther sometimes is a few months overlap. cant really comment on the 8v vs 16v argument

I just had a little look on Parkers mate and according to them they didnt make a 1.4 cdx in 8v variant, so unless im much mistaken it will be a 16v

Edit;

well the idea is that the more valve you have the quicker you can put in the petrol and the more you can get in before the next spark. Putting it in the most simplest of ways lol And obviously more air too so the ratio will still be the same. I wouldn't think 100+ I would have thought more around the 90bhp mark.

i didnt think they did either but if its a pre 97cdx it must be a 8v even if it shouldn't exist :/ either someone stuck cdx badges on or its had a engine swap, get a pic up of the engine and someone will know

Ive been on we buy any car and checked with my registration and they say its 16v too. I think because its a 5dr its different to all other corsas. You would think, bigger car, more weight, give it more power to compensate.

Says the 16v CDX was produced from 1 Dec 1994 -5 Dec 2000.
Find me somewhere that says they made a 8v CDX.

Same here. I couldn't believe it. I thought the same as you till I saw it written down. Didn't even then. Hence why ive been searching all over to try and disprove it. Spent about 3hrs now. Sad I know but what else am I going to do with my spare time? Homework? ah yeah right.

1.4Si is the early 1.4 SRi engine, 100BHP. Take a pic of the bonnet. If its the 8V it wont fill the engine bay as much as the 16V and the 16V will say Ecotec on the plastic engine cover.

I had a 5 door in 8v, its nothing to do with the amount of doors to how many valves it has, I also dont see it as a pleasent suprise, you are used to the power already and have been pying more on insurance for it..

Yes Ive already established its a 16v and yes it does say ecotec. And I never said It had anything to do with how many doors just said it made sense that if your making a bigger car you make the engine a bit more powerful to compensate. And I think its a nice surprise because I always thought it was 8v. Im like that, I like to know every little bit about my car, its also nice to learn something new. Its kinda like finding a 50p in your pocket you didnt know you had. lol
