Lets the engine breathe better, but unless you have a better exhaust, all you'll get in more induction roar, ...which is probably why its done.
Cars are like people, try running down the side of the road with a mask restricting your breathing. Its hard to keep the speed up and you use more energy. Remove the restriction and you feel and work better. get the idea? A good freeflowing induction system coupled with a proper performance exhaust with little restrictions, will enhance the efficiency of the car, i.e. more out for less in. Sure it'll use more petrol because its faster, and it sounds better, so you'll drive it harder! Drive it normally and your mpg will actually improve. Forget the big bore fancy exhausts, ..instead go to a proper stainless steel supplier who know what to do and get one made up. Its cheaper and works better. I paid £180 for a full s/s performance system for my Aerodeck and £400 for my vette. Both run much better now in terms of performance, throttle response, and mpg.. Cheers! |

im new to this and don't really know much about cars but what would happen if this was done on a 1.5 diesel? would it be the same effect?

Don't see why not, but I'm not au fait on diesels. All that's happening here is to allow the motor to breathe deeply. The guy who designs the engine, gets p*ss*ed off when the Control Engineer comes along and hangs restrictive devices on his lovely new engine, for reasons of quietness and emissions.
The intake is no big deal. Just a big induction filter kit like this one I got for my Honda Aerodeck. Works a treat!! Ignore the Aussie link info. M work IT pogues have blocked ebay from us, but we can still get into it via Australia!! I can vouch for this UK supplied filter. It works and is a real bargain, and can be fitted and cleaned easily... http://cgi.ebay.com.au/K-N-STYLE-IND...item25579c6b8d The Exhaust can be just as simple as the experts can make it. You'll still need a CAT and maybe a wee tailbox but not much else. These guys can fit the lambda sensors and anything else you need for an mot. These guys did me proud!! Sorry, but they are in Prestwick, SW Scotland! http://www.rmsstainlessexhausts.com/...d=45&Itemid=54 Last edited by exitwound; 12-03-2010 at 02:12 PM.. |
