How to fix non parking Wipers
Hi i just attempted to fix non parking wipers and it worked!! Heres How..
1. Flip up caps on wiper arms, remove nuts and pull arm away. 2. Open Bonnet 3. Remove weather strip across above the bulkhead (you will see it) 4. Remove 5 Screws Retaining scuttle panel (far left, mid left, Middle (only holds both sides together), Mid right and far right. Gently pull away scuttle panel. 5. Remove 2 plastic nuts surrounding the wiper are stub thingies. 6. pull away plastic shield which covers wiper linkage, fluid resevoirs. 7. Remove torx bolt and normal bolt retaining the servo stabiliser bar. 8. Disconnect wiper electrical connector. 9. Remove 3 bolts holding the wiper assembly to the body. 10. Gently pull the assembly out of the car. Right so now we are ready to fix the problem... 1. turn wiper assembly over so you can see the backplate riveted to the main body. it will have a small black and resin coloured block with two wires coming out of it. 2. Drill out the 5 rivets holding this backplate to the main body. you will have to drill quite deep if you use to big a drill bit. 3. Now you have drilled the rivets gently prise the cover away from the main body. Inside you will observe alot of grease and 3 copper arms on the underside of the cover. 4. examine the arms for corrosion or the contacts missing at the end. if a contact arm is completly broken you will have to replace the motor or fashion a bendy arm from some copper sheet and solder it on. 5. bend the arms slightly away from the cover to increase the contact pressure when you replace the cover. 6. Clean all grease from the contacts and the contact disc, push it into the work gear for extra lube. 7. Now you will need to find some small self tapping screws to replace the cover, you can see small holes beside where you drilled out the rivets. Use them. 8. Make sure you put the gasket back to stop moisture ingress. 9. Insert the screws and tighten. 10. Mark a point on the linkage and the assembly so you can test to see if the motor returns to the same point every time. 11. plug the motor back onto the car and put the keys in and try the wipers. Chances are it will work... Yipeeee! 12. Installation is the reverse to removal lol I did this today and one of the arms had the contact missing on the end of one of the arms, this didnt matter i just bent all three arms out a bit to make sure they contact the disc and it all works fine. Good luck, pm me with any problems thanks! |

Sorry to be an idiot, but by non parking wipers, do you mean by the timing being out of place - like they stop in middle of windscreen with the motor timer out of sync? AS that is the problem I have. Would just buying a new wiper motor fix this?
Steps seems a bit too complex to do without pictures anyway :P Last edited by Stevo; 07-09-2010 at 12:57 PM.. |
