New club Discount for Opie oils, also oil recommendations

After having talks with the owner from Opie Oils, he has agreed to add allcorsa to their drivers club discount scheme. For this we will recieve between 10-22% discount on all of their products.

They really know their stuff, ao any question people may have, post them in here and one of their team will come along to answer them.

Have to say top company and a big thanks to Tom, from opie oils for setting this up

Oil advice and recommendations here

I get asked many questions about oil so I thought a thread here for all oil related questions would be a good idea and build into a FAQ or reference point for others.

So, put your oil questions here but please give the following information if you would like a recommendation:

Make
Model
Year
Engine size/type

Any mods

Type of use (road/track)

Additional info (max oil temps, current oil used)

What do you want a recommendation for? Engine, Gearbox etc?

I hope this will help and become a useful thread

Regards
Oilman

For a honda you will need an MTF, these are slightly thinner accross the temp range then a conventional 75w-90, MTF's tend to be around 75w-80 and GL4. Most popular from us is the Amsoil Synthetic MTF and the Redline MTL http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-670-75w-80-75w-85-mtfs.aspx

Hi,

For the VTR we tend to recommend a 5w-40 synthetic for all year round use, you can also use a 10w-40 semi synthetic on more of a cost choice.

Have a look at Fuchs, Motul and Silkolene here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Cheers

Engine I would go with a good 5w-40 synthetic. The likes of the Motul 8100 Xcess 5w-40 and the Fuchs Titan Supersyn are ideal here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

Gearbox, a GL4 80w have a look at this one http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-901-motu...-pressure.aspx

Cheers

Engine oil
make - Vauxhall
model - Corsa GLS 5 Door
year - 1994
milage - 100,000
engine size - 1.2 8v
mods - K&N Induction kit, different backbox (not sure if either of those affect this?)
Type of use - Road
Other- Lots of different oils used in the past, it had a service last march where fully synthetic oil was put in (not sure what that is :S) and since then have topped up with castrol magnetex i think it was called!

Also, as I want to completely drain it, does anyone know how I dispose of the old oil? I am assuming it doesn't go in the bin

Oh and gearbox oil? Thats news to me, how do I go about that one then?

If you are going to drain and replace you can either go for a 5w-40 synthetic (quality choice) or a 10w-40 semi synthetic (cost choice). Brand wise, Fuchs and Motul are ideal http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-656-5w-40.aspx

To dispose of the oil you will need to take it to the local dump/recycling center, though check first that they can take it.

For the gearbox a GL4 80w such as this one here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-722-cast...-gear-oil.aspx

Cheers

Guy.

We dont stock the Magnatec in 5w-40, for the reason it is way way over priced for what it is. I would go for this one instead http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-877-motu...synthetic.aspx

Ok, the Ibiza should have a service/oil change every 10,000 miles, based on this you have plenty of choice. As its new I would go with a 0w-30 or 5w-30 synthetic all year round use.

Have a look at some 0w-30 oils here http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-652-0w-30.aspx

Chheers
