Hi
could anyone help, i got a 1.4 sport and within the first 10 mins it starts to run really hot and the fan comes on, the engine managment light comes on and everytime i slow down it starts to rev at about 2000 rpm and doesnt go down till i tap the pedal. The engine has done 89,000 miles and its a 1996 if it helps.

If anyone has ideas id appreciate as i cant even drive it at the min. Cheers.

Its standard with the car, not been changed.
Also at 60,000 ish miles it had an engine change.
Apparently the engine put back in was the same mileage and it was from silverlake.

so is the pannel filter old?

if it is run the engine untill hot and it starts to do what its doing. turn it off

remove filter and start it again. make shore nothing falls into air intake. and

see if that helps, just a case of buying a new filter.

if not then could be a vacuum leak at fuel injection unit low cylinder

compressions.

ye someone sed it could be a vaccum leak but would that be a reason for it to get so hot so quickly.
the water tank has also got rust in so that mite need a flushing out, would that help?

Would replacing the filter help with the high idling problem?

not dramatically, its hard to tell really.

if that dusnt work is there any chance if it being a sign the head gasket is on its way out or anything like that?, as these engines do get hot.

no theres nothin on the cap or the dipstick but are there any other ways of telling?

and i dont know if its been like this since the change but i dont think its has cause its been a run around car for the guy i bought it off.

could it be that its been run with no water in the tank or something?

it doesnt sound like it, unless you have to top up water regular basis.

but it could be that ignition timing is incorrect, if taking the filter out hasn't

worked,

its when you short the diagnostic socket to flash a code of recognised
