i have just replaced the head gasket on my 1996 corsa b and now im having trouble with the timing i have done it about 20 times includeing using the water pump to tighten it but i now seem to have the problem of it either advancing or reversing the timing on its own is there anyone out there that can help i do get some pops some of the time would it be one of the senseors as it has a elec disi and it is confusing the hell out of me please please help as im about to pull what hair i have left out lol

It's a bit tricky to know what's going on when we can't see the car or how you've done the job. One common reason people have problems getting the timing to line up right is that they rotate the engine with the spark plugs in place.

Are you using the procedure in the Haynes manual to line it all up?

yes i am using the procedure from the haynes manual and will do it again with out the sparkplugs and will let you know how it goes thanks for the reply

set the marks up and get a mate to hold the cam still. it helps.
