Warning, dad involved advice problem.

I'm replacing my water pump and head gasket at the moment and was talked through the job. I ordered what I thought was the correct gasket and it's on its way. I since found out there are 3 types (thicknesses), the one coming is the 2 hole 1.55, the one that came off seems to be the 1.45mm, 0 hole.

My dad, very much an old school, lump hammer and angle grinder mechanic is of the belief that it's an old engine and the part should go unless I'm after high performance.

I'm not in a mad rush to get the combo back on the road should I look into getting the proper one or chance my arm.

Sorry if this is an obvious one, I've luckily never had to deal with anything head gasket related before.

Thanks

The hole or notch 1 to 3 is to compensate if you have the head surface ground
ie- if you surface grind the head you use a thicker gasket
in your case if you are only replacing the gasket use the same holed gasket
