Hi,

Sons car has developed a really nasty rattle and whooshing sound when driving and revved around the left hand rear of engine. The rattle sounds like it could be the Timing chain but whoosing sound seems to be around inlet manifold area.

Had the cam cover off and when turning the engine by hand the cams look to be in line at TDC. The chain between the two cam sprockets is tight but when compression stroke passes it loosens quite a bit then retightens as you continue rotating crank.

Does this sound like the tensioner is knackered and any ideas on the whooshing sound which happens when the bad rattle occurs.
Thanks

Jimmy

Stripped timing cover etc and tensioner is sticking and worn so slack chain.
Putting in a replacement oil pump but does anyone have a decent picture of how the little seals and springs tabs fit?

Cheers

Replaced timing chain and oil pump Sounds sweet as now. However developed P0171 code now. Fuel trims at 32.8 on rough idle. Drives fine and cant find a vacuum leak anywhere?????
