Hi my friend recently broke down and got towed back home,she tried to start the car and it wont fire up it tries to turn over but makes a metal slapping sound,i removed the cam cover and 4 of the rocker arms are loose to the point i can move them around very freeley,it the end closest to the windscreen,all others are tight and dont move,the timing chain is intact and tight and the adjuster is also in place.Any help would be appreciated.thanks

Welcome to the Forum.

I just wonder if we are talking about a Vauxhall Corsa here? The reason being that you speak of 'rocker arms' and the cylinders near to the windscreen.

If you can state the model and or year, we might be able to give you a more accurate answer, but from what you say, it MAY be a valve problem, depending upon just how far you can actually move the rocker arms.
