Hello I have now started to hear a slight intermitant but constant noise over general engine noise increasing with revs,lad at work said sounds like tensioner pully any clues

Seriously - you need to give a lot more information. We can't see or here what you're on about so you'll need to tell us:

What engine, model, year
Mileage
Service history and when it last had a full service
Where the noise seems to be coming from & what it sounds like

engine noise

sounds like a metal on metal rough noise sounds as if coming from side of engine block where alternator belt is,just jet washed engine bay and those pulleys and seems to have reduced noise level now.

Because wherever metal that was hitting you've probably just linrictaed the area temporarily, making it harder to find until dry
