Hi, I'm new to this site and after serching the net thought I'd come on here for help.

I've just bought a Y reg Corsa 1.4 SRI 16v an have a faulty Engine temp gauge.

The gauge is usually stuck below zero, occisionally moves up to 80c and then back down to below zero.

I bought the car mainly for my 25m commute to work but don't want to want to attempt this without knowing whether the engine is going to overheat or not.
Any advice would be appreciated.

Btw, plain speaking would a help as I know very little about engines.

I have changed the coolant sensor as there was no way of testing it to earth as it has 2 wires.

It's not definitive you need a THERMOSTAT, however it's a possibility

Remove it and put in a pan of boiling water and it should open

If the stat just opens and closes, why would a faulty one give me a fluctuating reading? Wouldn't it just either register or not?
