goin to be giving the car a wash at the weekend and my girlfriend wants to clean under the bonnet as its a bit of a mess eg. oil spills etc from previous owners. Whats the best way to clean it eg. is there anything you should or shouldn't use on it?

don't use anything flammable or could become flammable, e.g. parafin or solvent based (thats a bit of a no-brainer so im sorry.)
you can use a pressure washer (or steam cleaner) but be careful when aiming the nozzle near electrical connectors, a good idea is to spray wd40 into the connectors afterwards to make sure theres no water in them and run the engine after it has stood for a while to dry it out.
i'll ask about in the valet bays at work tommorrow for you, they use a cleaner for this that brings it up like new, ill find out what its called or what they can recommend that you can buy.
