So I'm on my second corsa, both are mostly identical - Red R reg, same engine save for first one was a 5 door 1.4 and new one is a 3 door 1.2

The new one has a funky exhaust and a free flow air filter and it
a) seems really sluggish (all the lovely cold air we've had lately?)
b) gets rubbish milage compared to the 1.4

Being a commuter I've done the exact same route a zillion times, and all other considerations aside (tyre pressure, traffic variations) I reckon the 1.2 gets about 100 miles less out of a full tank than the 1.4 does. What gives?!

As above - check all basic service items.

Then get rid of the funky exhaust (it may may a huge difference if the back pressure it wrong) and get a standard air cleaner from a scrappies.

Yeah, was thinking of retrofitting a standard airbox, allegedly it had a full service in November (I bought it in Jan). Thanks for the tips.

That filter will be sucking hot air in from the engine

Right, standard airbox fitted. Makes a TON of difference, revs, torque, milage and the like. The previous weird filter looked like it was covered in a layer of gunk, fairly certain that can't have helped. Thank you people!
