im having a little bit of trouble with my eml light when i first got the car it had a problem with the egr valve i have replaced it and cleared the egr code but it now has the p1405 code still coming up once i clear them. any ideas what i could do to sort this?

What are you using to read the codes? If you've got Opcom then check the voltage readings using the live data function. It's possible it's a wiring fault - I had one a while back did the same and it was a tiny break in the core of one of the wires.

its just a snap-on bluepoint code reader that iv got would i be able to check the voltage with a multi meter?

Not really - it's watching the voltage response as the EGR operates that can tell you quite a bit about how it's operating.
