Just wondering if anyone knows in a diesel (or more specifically a Corsa B, 1.7d) if you don't have any fuel, should the engine still turn...?

Had one sat there for quite some time after we knew a clutch would be due soon, So, finally had the money to get some bits to get it going, but despite a fresh battery, doesn't seem to turn over...

Should turn is the starter clicking and have you tried it by hand

Balls This is what I was afraid of. Nope, starter's not clicking at all. I think all I get a fan or something coming to life when I turn the key. Relatively new to all this DIY mechanics stuff, learning as I go but I think I know what you mean; will I'll see if I can hand-crank it.

(Am I right in thinking there's a hex fitting somewhere on the pulley/belt side near the bottom where I can crank it? About as technical as I get at the moment :S)

Turn it over on the main crank bolt clockwise if the battery is definatly good check power at starter and might be worth giving it a whack whilst trying to turn over by key
