I bought a Corsa SXI 1.2 about 3 weeks ago, coming home from work today and the engine temperature shoots up to the red.....Pull over, look under the bonnet and It's making a bubbling noise and the fan isn't turning.

Had the volt meter on the fuses / relays and all is well (I think) and the fan motor runs fine (I've just wired it straight to the battery so i can get to work) there is a clicking noise coming from under the air flow thing but other than this I'm stumped

Anyone got any ideas and If they could be explained in pleb terms I'm not the best of mechanics

Which model/year is it?

The Corsa B uses a thermoswitch in the side of the rad. to turn the fan on and off. You can bridge the wires on it to trigger the relay and then the fan will run constantly. You can also put a switch across the bridge to turn the fan on manually.

Later models C & D use the coolant temperature sensor via the ECU to control the engine cooling fan.
