you need to lift the whole back of the can but not support it on the rear beam in any way, I used a piece of hard wood and two axel stand just in front of where the beam pivots. after that it was just a case of taking off the wheels detaching the shocks and then the pivot bolt, just have to be careful of the brake hose and the wire for the hand brake, these will need detaching/draining first

i used a piece of oak 3" x 6" but i an sure somebody will tell you there is somewhere the body is strong enough for the axel stands to sit, I am thinking Rob or Taurus or Dave will have a better idea.

cars? you can remove one axel and drop the car onto wheels on there side under the sills, if you worried about the wheels use some Cardboard to protect them, of course dont do this on expensive alloys as accidents can always occur.
saying that hiring axel stands for the day from somewhere like HSS will be peanuts

old tyres are good, put 2-3 under the spare wheel well.
