Check all your fuses, if they're ok I would remove & reseat the speedo part of the dash (Take off the plastic around the steering column, then you can pull the speedo unit out) to see if it's just a dodgy connection on the block at the back.

It's a straight push fit, so there's no cables or anything to worry about.

As renrenren said, check your fuses. The same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. All I did was, checked all my fuses and found one that had blown.

 

bang the plastic in front of the needle, happened to me once, just the needle gets stuck sometimes, bang it a few times and it should come back on, and with the mileometer, just reset it over and over until it works again, just old clocks sticking and need some assistance

Some are cable (usually start at 5 or 10 mph - can't remember which off the top of my head) the electric ones usually start at 0mph.

If it is a cable one then chances are the cable has busted.

If it's an electric one then either it's a fuse, or a dud connection (they are prone to coming loose at the back of the instrument panel) or the sender unit has died.

which fuse is for the speedo?

 

Likely to be #17 (10A, instrument cluster), #18 (20A, speed sensor) or #21 (15A, instrument cluster).
