Anybody know how to set the ignition timing up on a 1.2 16valve chain driven Corsa Sxi? year 1999 Reg V.

I have bottom pulley timing set at Top Dead Centre (TDC) But not 100% sure where or how to set the Cam Positioning Sensor (CPS) at? By this i mean the disc that is on the end of the inlet cam where the cam sensor picks the pulse up from.

I see that there is an arrow machined into the (CPS) but not sure if it has anything to do with the timing or if it does where should it be pointing with the crank set at TDC???

Why did vauxhall do away with distributors?

Any help greatly appriciated guys.
Cheers

It looks like nobody has the manual as the previous question went unanswered. I don't have a manual for that particular engine, so the only suggestion I can make is to get yourself a Haynes and hope the information is in there.

On most of their engines, and I've got several giving details of Cam Sensors, the CPS can only be fitted one way round in one place - they aren't adjustable.

Good question re. the demise of distributors - many is the time I am glad mine still has one. Makes life a lot simpler.

"Meant" being the operative word. :)

Seriously though, whilst the newer systems are very good - when they go wrong they can be a pain. The old dizzy on mine doesn't need a crankshaft sensor, has a coil you can test with a bog standard multimeter - and should it ever go wrong - you could take it to bits and sort it out.

In all honesty I have thought of buying a newer Corsa for the past couple of years, just because my wife is using our 2.2 Vectra to go to work in every day and the mileage on it is crazy. But I just can't bring myself to part with such a simple and reliable little engine.

Sorry - off topic I know - but there is lot to be said for simple.

Dont really want to buy a haynes manual just to set up the ignition timing. I was hoping that someone on here had the same car and would just remove there rocker cover and set the crank pullley/ No1 piston to TDC and tell me where or in which direction the arrow was pointing.
If i cant get it running right by tomorrow nite im going to scrap it as im starting to get sick of the sight of the thing now.
