Hi All,
I'm new here, just got my very first car 00 reg Opel corsa viva 1 litre 5 door car :) . Decieded to treat myself and the car to new seat covers and mats to spruce it up a bit :D.

Slight problem, front seat covers went on without any problem. Hit a major snag with the rear seats. Pushed the button to release and fold forward the rear seat (its split 60:40, problems with the larger seat) that went ok it released and I folded it as far forward as I needed too.
When I went to push it back it won't go. Its now stuck and won't go either fully back or fully forward, sticks out about 4 inches.

Any ideas or help would be great, as you can imagine its my first car and I want nothing more than to be out driving "my" car. It seems the mechanism is jammed, I have checked the Haynes manual and can find nothing useful in it?

Any help would be great, thanks guys

I've held the button and pushed like hell, didn't budge. I assumed my girl hands weren't up to task and made use of my other half's manly hands and brute force.... No joy.... :(

We pushed so hard I had to pull the handbrake up another notch to stop the car moving ( adjusted the hand brake cable after that.... adjusted the clutch cable too it was a bit lax and put in super bright bulbs, I'm so pleased with myself :D )

On the whole I'm enjoying my corsa experience, just got to sort out the seats and maybe put blue lights on the dash at the front and then see what other trouble I can get myself into with the car :) Corsa power!!!!

We've tried the shoving, we've really pushed the seat. to the point that I thought it was going to break and we just said to push on as its not working anyways to hell if we break it.
There's something in the mechanism thats just not fully releasing, I think I'm going to have to dismantle it to get at the mechanism, but theres nothing in the haynes manual for taking apart the back of the seat. I have managed to release the bar that anchors the seats in the boot. So I'm able to fold the seat totally flat and have acess to it, but I'm not sure if I start pulling the back off the seat etc will it go back together?

I wish I had the seatbelt wedged.... :( afraid not.

Darn it anyways, the other half is saying to go to a breakers and get another back seat!!! But I've just shelled out for the Car, insurance, tax and petrol all for the first time ever, don't have a whole lot of funding left to go and buy another back seat when I could possibly fix it.

Thanks to everyone who has replied with suggestions and tips, I appreciate it!

Hi, I had almost the same problem with the seat this weekend when I was tracing the wiring loom in the boot, unscrewed the interior panels and dropped one of the screws into the mechanism at the base of the seat and just could not move the seat in either direction and saw the screw was completely jamming the seat, took about half an hour to free it.

So, just wondering if one of the clips or seat cover straps may be wedged preventing it from moving

Yeah! I have it fixed! You sure as hell need the patience of a saint for it, very fiddly! Took the seat out of car for ease of access. Kinda peeled back the seat cover till i could see the foam. Undid the two screws on the back of the seat to get at the mechanism. Put the spring back on the little bolt and reassembled it. And then had great fun getting the long bar back into its home at the top of the seat just underneath the button. A very fiddly job where small girl hands came in useful. Now have my back seat covers on :) delighted. Thanks guys, ye are great!
